Extraordinary homes to Inspire and delight
We are so excited by the onslaught of summer that we thought we would give you an eyeful of extraordinary homes – as inspiration for the coming months. These homes are as different from one another as can be and they so beautifully demonstrate and speak to the individual owners’ unique personalities.
They remind us what can happen when we allow our individuality to speak through our homes and tell a story of who we are and what we love. These homes have tailored their spaces to include items that are near and dear to them.
First in the series is DAWN 777
The magnificent modern marvel that is DAWN 777 is situated in Upper Constantia, Cape Town, South Africa and is an absolute favorite with film and stills shoots alike. This extraordinary 5 bedroom home has floor to ceiling glass windows and open plan living spaces looking out toward the majestic Constantiaberg Mountain range.
Architecture and Interior design
The architect, Kate Del Fante, has combined glass, wood and cement to wonderful effect – creating a home that is modern without feeling cold. The interiors have maintained a limited palette of blue greys, warm wood tones and whites. In the Bulthaup kitchen, a moss green feature wall brings a freshness and a youthfulness. These fresh greens are picked up in scatter cushions in the formal lounge and the exquisite ferns in the courtyard area.
In the dining room a magnificent Lindsay Adelman type post modern glass chandelier shines onto a one of a kind copper dining table. The carpets throughout the home pick up the blues, rusts, creams and greens of the furnishings and wall and floor finishings. Items specific to the family’s interests inform the space. A baby grand and other musical instruments speak to a love of music. A large photo taken by a family friend dominates the entrance of the house and is visible from both the top and ground floors.
At the top of the stairs there is a more relaxed informal lounge area. This landing area separates the kids bedrooms from the master bedroom. The same blues and greys are continued in this area and a collection of photographic images of musicians continues a theme begun in the more formal living areas.
A real celebration of the outdoors is clear in the way the home flows seamlessly into the indigenous garden beyond. Designed and maintained by a talented landscape architect – the garden is designed around children and play and celebrates all that is great about living and growing up in South Africa now.
The family’s love of the modern and the functional is apparent in every aspect of this extraordinary home from the Under cabinet LED lights to the use of materials for construction, to the clean and uncluttered lines that inform the modern architecture and the interior design.
Truly breathtaking!!
